Painting Gnarloaks and Stone
January 2024·p. 25
THE SHORT VERSION
The tree recipe layers red Contrast over black before progressively lighter red and orange drybrushes catch its twisted branches. The adjoining stone guide starts from the same dark foundation but develops cool green highlights and a pale final edge. An alternative purple tree palette and a corrective dark glaze provide ways to adjust the colour while preserving the sculpted texture.
