THE SHORT VERSION
Robin Cruddace and Rich Butler explain why plans for an evolution of ninth edition became a complete tenth-edition overhaul. New datasheets, weapon-specific profiles, a broader toughness range, Objective Control and Leaders joining units aim to make roles clearer and rules easier to reference. Psychic abilities move into the phases where they operate, and Battle-shock represents loss of battlefield effectiveness rather than simply fleeing models.
They discuss reactive stratagems, fewer command points, flexible army construction and detachments that support thematic forces. Mission cards offer Fixed or Tactical secondaries and late-game gambits, while Combat Patrol lowers the barrier to playing and Crusade shifts attention towards characters and consequences. Shared universal rules provide a vocabulary intended to preserve tactical depth while reducing the amount players must memorise.
