THE SHORT VERSION

Matt Hutson’s autumnal Gnarlroot collection has grown from a 2016 Four Warlords project and incorporates even older Wood Elf models. Warm bark, coloured hair and dried-herb leaf litter distinguish units, while Screamer Pink spites tie everything together from Treelords to Gossamid wings. The accompanying bark and green spirit recipes explain the palette’s balance of woodland warmth and supernatural colour.

Painting Question: The Pallid Hand

Tom Moore’s Death Guard armour starts from white and gains a warm aged finish through Skeleton Horde, Ushabti Bone and pale drybrushed and edge highlights. The answer distinguishes this newer recommendation from Tom’s earlier Seraphim Sepia shading. Brown recess stains, sponge-stippled grime and selective blood finish the worn appearance without hiding the light armour.
