Malcor’s ambition leads him to plot against Olynder, betray his fellow conspirators and imagine that marriage will secure power he has not earned. His death exposes how badly he has misjudged her, and his afterlife as a Knight of Shrouds turns his desire for advancement into permanent service to the woman he tried to control.
