Phil distinguishes primordial gods from beings that ascended from mortal origins, focusing here on Chaos and Gorkamorka. Their nature, worshippers and affinities with particular realms show how cosmic forces drive stories while remaining recognisable through the ambitions and emotions of ordinary followers.

Bael-Grimnir seeks the certainty of battle amid uncertainty about his lodge’s future. A reckless confrontation with Bonesplitterz forces him to depend on help he had resisted, and the return to his family suggests that accepting change may be as necessary as preserving Vostarg tradition.
