Painting a Flamespyre Phoenix
May 2013·p. 110
THE SHORT VERSION
The Phoenix begins with a red foundation that establishes the overall warmth of its plumage. Brighter orange, yellow and white build the suggestion of heat towards the feather tips. A medium makes those transitions easier to control. Painting the underside first and letting it dry before turning the model helps prevent pooling on the opposite surface.
