The Old Man and the Lord of Death
February 2013·pp. 150–151
THE SHORT VERSION
Adam Troke asks David Annandale about writing Yarrick and Mephiston. The Commissar’s imprisonment provides a contained story within the larger Armageddon conflict, while Mephiston calls for a stranger and more unsettling narrative voice. Annandale discusses the appeal of their mythic personalities and rivalries. His own route into the hobby began with fiction, eventually leading to a Black Dragons collection and individual characters bought for their personal appeal.
