Citadel Hall of Fame: Karl Franz on Deathclaw

January 2013·pp. 84–85

THE SHORT VERSION

Alan Perry nominates Brian Nelson’s Karl Franz and Deathclaw for bringing a heraldic creature and familiar Blanche image into a majestic physical form. Nelson explains the deliberate difference between the Empire’s puffed, imposing Griffon and the sleek High Elf beast, while retaining echoes of Michael Perry’s earlier rider. Sculpting at three times normal scale makes the work unusually large and detailed, particularly the individually formed feathers, before reduction to the finished kit.
