C. Z. Dunn’s first-person extract follows Sergeant Constantin Raphael as a fight with apparently insignificant Cultists turns costly. Autogun fire kills Regulus and knives find the gaps in Selaphiel’s armour, forcing Raphael to confront losses that dwarf his squad’s previous decades of service. His heightened perception of the fighting becomes grief and anger, revealing how easily the Dark Angels’ pride and desire for vengeance can shape a battlefield decision.
