Painting the Red Flesh

March 2012·p. 45

THE SHORT VERSION

Bowerman uses a spray gun for the broad red base layers, then builds saturation through Mechrite Red, Blood Red and repeated Baal Red washes. Orange and pale brown highlights sharpen the raised anatomy while a final Devlan Mud application deepens the recesses. The sequence aims to keep a large expanse of red vigorous and readable without over-highlighting it into a garish colour.
