Painting the Face

March 2012·p. 48

THE SHORT VERSION

Bowerman gives the face several sharply differentiated details: a purple tongue, shaded bone teeth and yellow eyes. The tongue is lightened through warmer purple and pale bone, while the teeth progress from Khemri Brown through a brown wash to bright tips. Ochre, sepia and two yellows keep the small eyes vivid against the red head, helping the monster retain a focal point despite its enormous body.
