Painting the Carapace and Cluster Spines
March 2012·p. 47
THE SHORT VERSION
Black carapace plates receive successive feathered lines of turquoise and pale grey, creating a streaked edge that suggests the growth of chitin. Bowerman describes pulling wet paint inward with a rinsed brush rather than simply drawing a solid highlight. The cluster spines use their own grey progression over black, while a watery Goblin Green mixture collects around them to suggest a contrasting organic membrane.
