Robin Cruddace describes the Swarmlord as an ancient, recurring intelligence that the Hive Mind regenerates when raw adaptation cannot overcome a difficult opponent. Its independence and accumulated experience make every reincarnation more dangerous, even after a defeat such as Calgar’s victory at Ichar IV. A chronology follows its clashes with Eldar and Chaos, then its campaign to break the Ork empire of Octarius by hunting the Warbosses who hold the enemy together.
