Painting the Stone

December 2011·p. 79

THE SHORT VERSION

A granite foundation is drybrushed through two greys before individual stones receive sepia or flesh-toned washes. A very light bone drybrush then reunites the walls without erasing their colour variation. The method makes the broad masonry readable quickly while preserving the impression of a building repaired with mismatched materials.
