Painting the Roof Tiles

December 2011·p. 82

THE SHORT VERSION

Deep blue and a black wash establish the roof before a blue-grey drybrush defines the slates. Selective washes and pale layers then vary patches rather than covering every tile identically. A final blue wash on chosen areas completes an irregular roof whose changes in tone match the building’s ramshackle construction.
