Mat compares the flexible Captain and Librarian with the Chapter’s powerful named leaders. The Sanguinor specialises in hunting an enemy commander, Dante improves his own unit’s mobility, Mephiston acts as a fast independent threat and Astorath reshapes the incidence of the Red Thirst and Death Company selection. Tycho’s two incarnations illustrate the trade between army leadership and personal ferocity, encouraging a choice based on the army’s plan rather than reputation alone.
