Standard Bearer: Battlefields That Tell a Story
May 2010·pp. 86–88
THE SHORT VERSION
Jervis Johnson argues that arranging good scenery thoughtfully matters as much as owning it. He replaces a scattered collection of terrain with a village, adjoining woods, roads and a sinister focal ruin, encouraging a model’s-eye inspection of the resulting landscape. Small decorative pieces make the setting convincing, and agreed treatment of incidental scenery keeps formation games moving while allowing the battlefield to contribute to the story.
