Head Armour

May 2010·p. 97

THE SHORT VERSION

The boar’s steel armour is deliberately dull, beginning with dark metal and four controlled thin coats of black wash rather than one heavy application. A brown wash ages the surface further, then bright silver edging, scratches and chips restore contrast where the metal has been struck. Keith repeats the same method on the extra blade fitted to the boar’s head and several of the rider’s metal details.
