Club Thank You 2009

March 2010·p. 117

THE SHORT VERSION

The report visits Warhammer World’s annual day of thanks for Gaming Club Network volunteers, whose preparation and participation games made up more than half of the preceding Games Day programme. Guests can play for themselves, attend readings, browse Forge World and share a Christmas meal. Certificates recognise all contributors, while Hobby Master awards honour Rob Bastow and Bek Hawkby; the article presents the event as recognition of the sustained unpaid effort behind the wider gaming community.

News: Muster the Battlehosts

Battlehosts is previewed as War of the Ring’s first expansion, grouping formations and heroes into fifty-nine themed fighting forces. Fantasy Flight adds the Warpstone Chronicles to Warhammer: Invasion and concludes Haarlock’s Legacy with Dead Stars. Games Day ticket plans, a Golden Demon winners display and School League preparation accompany a clarification that Black Library’s print-on-demand books are physical publications rather than downloads.

Access Granted!

The Bunker introduction previews reader miniatures, a vast French battle and a new collection of light-hearted monthly awards on the back page. A recurring painting-challenge calendar gives themes and submission windows, while the achievement tracker explains how painting, scenarios and club events contribute towards hobby ranks. The printed sample log is labelled June 2026 within this May issue and functions as a club record rather than changing the magazine’s publication date.

Your Warhammer

Readers describe returning to the hobby, finding support through a welcoming local shop and using painting as a satisfying creative routine. Other letters celebrate memorable battle reports and personalised armies, ask for their more frequent return, and welcome scratch-built terrain tutorials. The editorial replies discuss the pleasure of painting outside a main collection and suggest that further terrain-building features are already being considered.
