Standard Bearer: Conversions
February 2010·pp. 76–78
THE SHORT VERSION
Jervis Johnson asks why hobbyists devote time to conversions when the unaltered models already look good. He moves from simple component swaps through putty work and scratch building, arguing that ordinary rank-and-file figures can be as personally meaningful as spectacular centrepieces. Plastic compatibility and spare components support this creativity, but the satisfaction comes from making something individual rather than from the tools themselves.
