Transfix, Compel and Paralyse let ordinary warriors overwhelm otherwise superior heroes by reducing their fighting ability or separating them from support. Sap Will, Drain Courage and a broken staff can prepare the target over several turns. Simon’s Isengard example combines Gríma, Saruman and Berserkers into an expensive assassination team. Defending against such plans requires reserve Will, thoughtful deployment and keeping the threatening caster occupied.
