Black Areas and Insignia
September 2008·p. 98
THE SHORT VERSION
Grey highlights followed by a black wash create readable dark surfaces without losing their black appearance. For the shield, Neil first plans a rune on paper and marks its proportions before painting it in brown, edging it with bone and tidying it with white and purple. Joe’s battle standard applies the same care to centring a larger emblem. The advice treats spacing and correction as essential parts of freehand work.
