MODELLING·WHITE DWARF 344

Rocky Outcrops

August 2008·p. 97

THE SHORT VERSION

Bark and slate are arranged in the same direction on a smoothed MDF base, surrounded with gravel, sand and thorn-like horse hair. A black undercoat and successive grey drybrushes make the mixed materials read as one barren formation. Alternatives such as pan scourers, mounting card and polystyrene tiles are compared for availability, durability and ease of cutting. Choosing the right base material helps avoid later warping.
