Washing: Damrod

July 2008·pp. 90–91

THE SHORT VERSION

A basecoat, wash and restored highlight give Damrod’s green clothing, pale skin and brown leather quick definition. Additional green edges sharpen the most visible folds. The surrounding explanation describes how a wash changes both recesses and raised surfaces, and suggests testing paint-based mixtures when using other colours. The example demonstrates a repeatable tabletop method in which modest layers produce useful shade without elaborate blending.
