PAINTING·WHITE DWARF 343

Painting the Board

July 2008·p. 99

THE SHORT VERSION

A sealing basecoat locks the sand down before broad drybrushed highlights create a fast battlefield finish. The main earth scheme can be matched with household emulsion for economical coverage. Alternatives develop a warm desert, red Martian ground and a green-grey moonscape, the last using textured wallpaper instead of sand. Varying drybrush intensity creates natural changes across the surface without requiring individually painted details.
