Painting the Skulls

June 2008·p. 97

THE SHORT VERSION

The many trophies begin from a dirty grey Foundation colour rather than a warm ivory base. Increasing amounts of bone cover most surfaces but preserve patches of the original grey, making the skulls appear weathered. Fine pure-white highlights then give the most prominent edges a chalky quality. Repeating the sequence across cloak, horns and base keeps the numerous small details consistent without turning them into a uniformly bright mass.
