Painting the Flesh
June 2008·p. 95
THE SHORT VERSION
Repeated thin red layers establish smooth skin over a black foundation before increasingly bright mixtures define raised muscles. Dark brown-black shading restores the deepest recesses, and an orange-yellow final highlight picks out the uppermost details. Eyes progress to a small white light, while teeth use subdued grey-bone colours. Keeping the head separate improves access and makes the face easier to control throughout the process.
