Layering
June 2008·pp. 82–83
THE SHORT VERSION
The guide compares a few contrasting layers with many narrow intermediate shades. Mixing adjoining colours in changing proportions can make transitions smoother, while adding a pale neutral helps unrelated tones belong together. Thinned paint prevents the layers from becoming heavy and obscuring detail. A High Elf Archer demonstrates grey-to-white robes and blue ribbons, and Dave Andrews’s work shows how disciplined colour selection supports the same method at a high standard.
