Painting Mannfred’s Skin and Fur

May 2008·p. 94

THE SHORT VERSION

Neil completes the messy fur drybrushing before working on the carefully layered face. Warm browns and pale highlights give the cloak texture, unified by an ink glaze. The skin begins from a dark flesh-brown mix, gains increasingly narrow bone and white highlights, and receives blue shading around the eyes. Fine veins and bright facial edges make Mannfred’s head a sharply defined focal point within the dark miniature.
