Toolbox: Hobby Drill

May 2008·p. 78

THE SHORT VERSION

The hobby drill adds mechanical strength to awkward metal joins by making matching holes for a short wire pin. A paint mark on the projecting wire transfers the correct location to the second component, improving alignment before gluing. The guide also uses drilled holes and round files to open weapon barrels. Patient rotation with light pressure gives control, making the tool useful both for structural assembly and small realistic details.
