INTERVIEW·WHITE DWARF 341

Drawing the Daemons

May 2008·p. 23

THE SHORT VERSION

Paul Dainton explains how the artists portray the same creatures against two very different kinds of enemy. Energy and violence remain common requirements, while each book receives individual illustrations rather than repeatedly recycling the same images. Scars, jewellery and other embedded symbols make the gods’ iconography less literal than a background banner. Dainton singles out Nurgle’s mixture of grotesqueness and mischief as especially enjoyable to draw.
