Painting Masterclass: Master Engineer

January 2007·pp. 88–93

THE SHORT VERSION

Neil Green paints the Master Engineer and Mechanical Steed in a sequence that begins with the large metallic surfaces and works outward to cloth and fine details. A matte grey armour wash, subtly purple-shaded gold and differentiated brass preserve the machinery’s character, while red cloth, green laurels and warm flesh add contrast. Complete colour progressions accompany the stages, with advice on eyes, wood grain, scroll lettering and leaving detachable weapon arms accessible during painting.
