Jon Carter, Rob Macfarlane and Rik Turner report on the Birmingham NEC event through its Forum, Arena and Pavilion halls. New models, the Aeronautica Imperialis demonstration, mass participation battles and a three-times-scale Battle for Skull Pass display share space with painting, conversion and art activities. The Arena’s participation games use elaborate terrain and unusual projects to turn familiar systems into large shared spectacles. Highlights include a folding cross-section of Moria, a Dwarven airship, huge Imperial Guard and Necron forces and a Tau city above the sea. A Cities of Death table with an elevated roadway demonstrates how clubs and store teams can extend the scenery and scale of ordinary games.
