Tactic One: Line-breaker

March 2006·p. 113

THE SHORT VERSION

A frontal charge must overcome ranks, banners and numbers immediately if the cavalry is to pursue through the enemy line. Jeff’s worked example shows armoured Knights inflicting wounds yet merely drawing combat against ranked infantry. A fleeing target can also leave them stranded in countercharge range. Supporting units should be ready to exploit the opening, ensuring an opponent who declines the charge still gives something away.
