Tactic Two: Flankers

March 2006·pp. 113–114

THE SHORT VERSION

A flank charge removes much of the infantry’s static advantage, letting a smaller mounted unit turn a fight decisively. Baiting an enemy into a failed charge can reveal the necessary flank, while careful angling of friendly infantry can create a similar opportunity even if they hold. The diagrams compare apparently similar positions whose charge arcs produce different results. Positioning the supporting cavalry matters as much as buying it.
