Painting Troll Skin

December 2005·p. 115

THE SHORT VERSION

Bronzed Flesh darkened with black establishes the Cave Troll’s skin, including the areas between its back scales. Black drybrushing feathers the boundary between the flesh and the darker body. A diluted Scorched Brown and Bestial Brown wash shades the surface, after which increasing Skull White in the original flesh mix builds a textured highlight. The stages solve the transition between skin and scales while preserving the army’s subdued finish.
