Shrine of the Sorcerers: Syndillian’s Vigil

December 2005·pp. 72–89

THE SHORT VERSION

Syndillian first believes the Dark Elf ships threaten the river approach, then realizes they conceal an attack through the forest and sounds the shrine’s alarm. The closing passage returns to her after the battle as she watches the defenders gather their dead, including her own son. Victory has preserved the sanctuary at an unbearable personal price, and grief drives her to join the spell-weavers preparing vengeance on the retreating enemy.
