PAINTING·WHITE DWARF 311

Drybrushes

November 2005·p. 122

THE SHORT VERSION

Drybrushing removes nearly all paint before gentle strokes deposit colour only on raised texture, gradually building a dusted highlight. The article distinguishes this from wetter overbrushing while acknowledging how painters combine them. Round tools suit controlled textured areas, and the new flat brushes cover edges, vehicles and scenery quickly. Progressively lighter layers increase contrast without requiring a single heavy application.
