Brush Care

November 2005·p. 120

THE SHORT VERSION

Cold-water cleaning, occasional soap and repointing on tissue keep a natural-hair brush usable. The guide recommends storing it point-up with its protective sleeve and loading paint only partway along the bristles. Dried colour at the base can split the point and contaminate later mixes, so old tools or handles should stir paint instead. Photographs contrast good habits with damaged and poorly stored brushes.
