PAINTING·WHITE DWARF 311

Silver and White Trees

November 2005·p. 103

THE SHORT VERSION

The pale birch recipe drybrushes earth, khaki and white across the model, then establishes dark areas separately before rebuilding them with brown and ochre. The contrast follows a photographed tree’s real bark rather than an invented uniform timber colour. Applying the pattern across a Dryad’s limbs makes the creature recognizable as a particular living tree species.
