The Battle of Bywater
March 2005·pp. 22–31
THE SHORT VERSION
Adam Troke’s returning Travellers and Hobbit defenders confront Pete Haines’s Ruffians in a road lined with hedges and a barricade. Adam abandons his initial shooting plan for early fighting, while Pete presses one flank and eventually brings Sharkey into the struggle; the scenario’s replacement fighters keep the battle alive long after the original formations have broken apart.
Sharkey survives an early wound, Worm changes sides and dies, and the fighting stretches to sixteen turns. Pippin and Sam fall, but Frodo’s supporting banner effect helps Merry win the decisive combat; Merry spends his final Might point to kill Sharkey and secure the Good victory. Both players’ reviews distinguish the result from the quality of their earlier decisions.
