LORE·WHITE DWARF 302

The Iron Cage

February 2005·p. 83

THE SHORT VERSION

Rogal Dorn answers Perturabo’s fortress challenge with an uncharacteristically direct assault, turning the battle into a prolonged test of endurance. Ultramarine intervention prevents the destruction of the Imperial Fists, and the survivors’ subsequent retreat into reorganisation becomes the account’s explanation for their unusually strict adherence to the Codex Astartes.

The Under-Empire

Anthony Reynolds describes the vast network that lets Skaven move unseen beneath cities and between continents, using stolen Dwarf halls as well as newly excavated tunnels. Skavenblight, Karak Eight Peaks, Crookback Mountain and Bitter-Sump show different forms of this hidden civilisation, whose crowded populations, coerced labour and treacherous clans make conquest inseparable from internal rivalry.
