A wandering scholar reconstructs the rise of Drózhna from Hasharin trainee to a secret servant of Sauron embedded in Umbar’s politics. Assassination, manipulation and rivalry with Suladân culminate in the destruction of Ratarn, showing how the demand to supply the Dark Lord’s army becomes an excuse for a fanatic’s cruelty.
