The Imperial School of Engineers
August 2004·pp. 50–55
THE SHORT VERSION
Graham McNeill follows the school from Leonardo of Miragliano’s patronage under the Reik Princes to its later Imperial status. The Steam Tank and Hochland long rifle sit beside less reliable inventions, including pigeon bombs, a submarine, a flying machine and a subterranean drill. Individual inventors illustrate the mixture of practical science, obsession and danger. The account distinguishes Altdorf’s experimental institution from Nuln’s production and refinement of established weapons.
