Building Helm’s Deep on a Budget
June 2004·pp. 142–143
THE SHORT VERSION
David Goulding expands the commercially produced gateway into a larger fortress for games with his son Stephen. Reused packaging, cardboard, polystyrene and materials from his shed provide most of the structure. Individual stonework, filler and careful painting integrate the improvised sections, while compromises keep the model transportable. The account shows how patient work in small stages can produce an ambitious battlefield without specialised construction materials.
