The Trials of Albarak: A Debt of Souls

July 2025·pp. 104–113

THE SHORT VERSION

A dying Kharadron messenger brings news of an Idoneth attack and a mysterious duardin rune. Beratak takes Albarak to Excelsis, where their appeal overcomes the admirals’ suspicion and secures passage to the ruined prospecting platform Tralhafn. Rescue reveals survivors stripped of their souls and a Dhom Hain weapon combining a talunhook with a stolen duardin spearhead. Recognising an ambush around the lost submersible, Albarak volunteers to draw the hunters out in an experimental diving suit.

The expedition descends into the sea before erupting into an assault through the Idoneth ethersea. Badly wounded, Albarak uses his freezing dagger Frostfang to defeat the enemy leader while Kharadron reinforcements destroy the great beast supporting the attack. Breaking the talunhook frees his soul and restores the stolen spear’s power, forcing the Dhom Hain to withdraw. The lore-speaker’s final unease hints that this celebrated recovery will carry consequences beyond the victory.
