Mercenary Mega-Gargant

April 2023·pp. 50–51

THE SHORT VERSION

Dom Cockburn turns a hired gargant into a raised firing position for the Big Yellers. Varanite Syphon structures and a Sloggoth howdah carry a Killbow crew on his shoulders, while armour plates from large Kruleboyz kits suggest payment in clan equipment. Warmly stained metal and layered flesh recipes tie the outsized conversion together.

Readers describe developing non-metallic metal skills and how gaming supports a child’s maths, reading and imagination. Grombrindal explains how daemons can manifest in separate realities through a timeless Realm of Chaos. The accompanying galleries include a seasonal Lady of Vines and a nature-inspired Tyranid collection, while a reader question draws out Celennar’s fur and metal recipes.

Painting Question: Celennar, Spirit of Hysh

Martyn Lyon’s Celennar starts from an overall brown base, with diluted dark washes deepening the fur and wing tips. Careful pale drybrushing follows the model’s fine textures and gives special attention to the belly and wings. Blue-green shaded silver links the spirit’s metallic ornaments to the rest of the Lumineth army.

Model of the Month: Lady of Vines

Sergey Bel chooses spring and summer for a Lady of Vines within an army representing all four seasons. Drybrushed light browns build the bark’s fine texture, while wet blending gives the distinctive vines smoother colour transitions. Black Library portrayals helped shape his interest in the character and the seasonal identity of the collection.
