THE SHORT VERSION

Matt Hutson models the Neophytes as squires who learn from and carry equipment for individual Initiates. Aggressive knife-and-pistol poses suit their place within Crusader squads, while swords, banners and scrolls explain their duties outside combat. Their relatively plain armour contrasts with veterans’ liturgy, and facial cross tattoos echo the white crosses painted on the older warriors’ helmets.
