Andy Hoare follows an aspirant from genetic implantation into the Scout squads of the 10th Company. Experienced sergeants supervise both combat training and gradual admission to Chapter secrets, while the rigours of induction leave some failures serving as serfs or Servitors. Scouts learn infiltration and reconnaissance through practical deployment, using specialized communications, optics and lighter ceramite armour. The closing camouflage examples show how environmental concealment coexists with the overt shock tactics of full battle companies.
