Owen Rees introduces himself as White Dwarf’s new editor, a Yorkshire hobbyist whose career has ranged from stores to the Studio and web team. His favourite armies connect long-standing Dark Angels enthusiasm with the Tahnelian Drop Troops he is currently expanding. He praises the sectional layout and practical hobby material established by his predecessors, and explains his own enjoyment of tournaments as social gatherings that generate new ideas.

Graham McNeill recounts six Black Templar crusades and pairs each history with models made to embody it. Boarding actions at Nimbosa, the disappearance of the Ophidium Gulf force, Lastrati’s perverted purity cult and the assault on Vandire’s palace establish very different meanings of zeal. The Vinculus and Jerulas campaigns then connect hazardous fortress assaults with the Chapter’s armoured tactics. Heraldic banners, trophies, squires and mixed armour turn the written histories into distinct miniature forces.

Castellan Folker’s warriors overcome Tau resistance aboard Orbital Primus by splitting into small teams and breaking through bulkheads rather than persisting with a frontal assault. Capturing the guns exposes the remaining stations to the Imperial fleet, after which the Templars send the captured orbital plunging into the planet. Graham McNeill represents the crusade with damaged battlesuit trophies, a Tau head on the banner and its particular crusade seal.
